Solar Roadways?

OK, saw this on Facebook, and it sounds very intriguing.

However, there’s always that part of me that says: “Pause! That’s some enthusiasm, but I hate the thought that I could be blinded by emotion.”

[No, I am not some emotionless Spock, but I admired the character greatly.]

So, here is my challenge:

  • After watching this video completely (and catching all the answers they provide) can anyone give me a more holistic picture?
  • What kinds of questions should people be asking, and are there some angles that are not mentioned here?
  • Is the excitement blinding us all to a less emotional, but still well-founded, conclusion that covers ALL the facts?
  • Is there a flaw (or more) that needs to be addressed?
  • Is there a downside that has enough “oomph” to give anyone legitimate pause?

Put on your skeptic caps, folks, but not just for the sake of being critical, but being really useful/helpful. (And for all you high IQ people who might be reading, here is something useful towards which you can turn your attention.)

If this is as good and well-thought-out as it appears, it deserves all kinds of attention. So, take a look and let me know what YOU think:

I love the idea of having “Solar Freakin Roadways”. What a great use of resources.
    Some things to consider:
Will the LED lights increase our risk of cancer?
What is the cost of replacing them after a cataclysmic event such as an earth quake?
How much time would it take to replace them and what would we use to manage our roadways during repair?
Would the constant lighting both on the ground and in the air cause overstimulation?
What affect if any at all will this have on Airplanes?
How will this light pollution affect our central nervous system?
Can we build cars that will enable them to work in conjunction with the panels?
When a road pattern has changed how will the public be notified?
What will a vast amount of LED lighting do to our animal population?
Will the lights attract certain species of animals to the road?
Will computers determine the pattern of the road? How will hacking be prevented?
Could a glitch cause a major catastrophe?
How will we transition communities and our aging population into this new Era or Solar Powered Road ways with out alienating them from the society that they helped to build?
How would the panels perform in primarily wooded terrain?
Will roads become overly attractive to younger children?
How could we market this technology to other countries?
Where would they first be installed?
Will these roadways replace the current methods used to keep data about the use of roadways?

The birth of progress is the blessings of our tomorrow. The future has arrived right in the nick of time. I’m very intrigued by “Solar Freakin Roadways”

Wow! Thank you for those amazingly well-thought-out questions; they are truly global in their perspective. You have a great inquiring mind!

By the way, for everyone else, don’t let that lovely list inhibit you from making a comment, too. Even if it is only one idea, or a response/addition to Dana’s ideas, it would be beneficial to all. In fact, I must look for the root website and see if these ideas have been publicly addressed or, if not, see if I can give them a link to the questions.
